GRIP I-10 - Texas State Line to Las Cruces

Reconstruction of existing lanes and expansion from a four-lane to a six-lane highway to accommodate high commuter and commercial traffic from El Paso. This is a major corridor for east to west coast transport of goods and services.

On Aug. 19, 2009 state and local officials were joined by U.S. Congressman James L. Oberstar, Chairman for the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, to break ground on the $36.2 million project. Some of the funds were provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

This expansion beyond the safety improvements--which inlcude installation of median cable barrier, noise wall and right-of-way fencing--will provide an even higher road capacity that will allow for more efficient movement of commerical traffic. Major roadways like I-10 are vital to business growth and economic recover. Faster, more efficient transporation of goods and services are the backbone of our nation's businesses and commercial successes. Crews began work on the project February 2010.

Traffic & Detours

Traffic wil be reduced to one lane on I-10 from the Vado Exit (mile post 155) to the Texas State line. Passing lanes will be closed with driving lanes opened and traffic reduced to speeds of 35 mph.

Motorists are advised NOT to use N.M. 478 or N.M. 28 as alternate routes as these roadways are NOT designed to withstand high volumes of traffic. Park and Ride is available for daily commuters.
